We all have hobbies. Some of us read the latest best-seller. Some of us stay up on the top TV shows. Some of us follow our favorite sports teams.
I bake.
From the time I was very young, I’ve found fulfillment and comfort in the kitchen. I grew up in a kitchen where everything was homemade. I never knew you could buy frosting in tubs and cookie dough in rolls. My mom made everything from scratch and she taught me much of what I know today.
Baking was, and still is, my favorite way to show kindness and appreciation to others. For years, I gave Confetti Cookies as small gifts. While it was a simple gesture on my part, seeing the joy the gifts brought to others showed me the power of a taste that is homemade.
I’ve honed my baking skills by learning about new styles and techniques. I’ve experimented with new recipes and found new wrinkles for old favorites. Each time my husband and I take trips to our favorite getaway, New York City, I take advantage of being in the food capital of the world and sharpen my skills in professional baking classes.
In July of 2019, it was time to take the leap into being a small business owner. Ready to expand my baking beyond a small circle of family and friends, I launched Home Baked. Through the power of social media and word of mouth, hundreds of people have showed up at my door to buy baked goods. They gave me a chance, shared my product with their families and friends, and kept coming back for more.
My customers continue to challenge me to create new products, make my existing products better, and turn my hobby into a rapidly growing small business. I am forever grateful for the love, support, and relationships built, just from mixing up some homemade recipes in my kitchen. I look forward to many years of bringing joy to others through home baked goods.
